Maternity Style: A Guide to Pregnancy-Friendly Fashion for Every Trimester
My second pregnancy has sparked a fresh wave of inspiration that was absent during my first. Fashion has consistently played a crucial role in my life, and this time around, I was determined not to miss out on the enjoyment it could bring even while pregnant. Instead of expending energy trying to squeeze into my pre-pregnancy wardrobe or resigning myself to daily sweats and t-shirts due to nothing fitting, I opted to allocate a budget for “pregnancy-friendly” clothing. These pieces were to be not only suitable for pregnancy but also designed to extend their usefulness into postpartum and beyond.
Becoming a parent shifted my perspective on tight clothing, fast fashion, and poor quality, deeming them less than ideal for this new phase of my life. Suddenly, the discomfort of clothes clinging to me became unbearable, exacerbated by the unpredictable moments when my one-year-old would cover me in sticky food substances, often leaving indelible stains. Not to mention the disappointment of receiving cute items from my favorite fast-fashion websites, only to find that the quality and material fell far short of the presented image. I can’t count the number of see-through leggings and paper-thin shirts and jackets I’ve ordered in the past!

So, I jotted down some non-negotiables for this whole “pregnancy-friendly” wardrobe thing:
- Gotta be comfy.
- Keep it casual.
- Should work post-pregnancy too.
These rules completely changed the way I online shop!
Suddenly, I found myself checking materials, inseams, size charts, and of course, the price tag.
I was now a conscious-shopper making mindful decisions about my wardrobe.
What a far cry away from spontaneously hitting the “Add to Cart” button with my fingers crossed LOL.
The Outfit Details

I chose the Alexander Wang Bralette Triangle Bra for two reasons: because I love the quality of all Alexander Wang pieces, and because this bralette is 91% cotton! – making it breathable and comfortable.
To make this outfit budget-friendly, I paired it with a Fashion Nova Charge It To The Game Reflective Crop Jacket – Silver, which turned out to be a perfect match to the AFRM Etienne Parachute Pants in Reflective Gray I purchased on the ASOS App!
What I absolutely adore about the AFRM brand is their tall-girl friendly bottoms. I’m 5’10 and usually struggle to find bottoms with an inseam of at least 33-34 inches. Most online shops don’t even bother mentioning inseams in the product details, so even if the “Model’s Height” matches mine, it often ends up being a lousy fit without knowing the exact inseam. This is where AFRM consistently delivers! You can always spot the inseam details in the “Size & Fit” section for most of their products.
I haven’t always been a sneaker girl, but since becoming a mom, comfy closed-toe shoes have become a necessity over heels and sandals. The Wmns Air Jordan 1 Retro Low OG ‘NC to Chi’ are one of my latest purchases and are seriously one of the most comfortable sneakers I own! As someone who finds that you often have to sacrifice cuteness for comfort when it comes to shoes, I love that these sneakers manage to give you both without burning a hole in your wallet.
And finally, I topped this #bumpstyle look off with a pair of Le Specs Outta Love – they’re trendy and affordable and come in an array of styles. They’re also a great “everyday” pair of shades that compliment most looks without giving off too much “hater-blocker” energy, if you know what I mean.
